We flew into the Grand Canyon in a helicopter, viewed New York from atop the Empire State Building, and stood at the Lincoln Memorial where Martin Luther King announced he had a dream. And then there was San Francisco, where we happened to catch a transsexual singer perform Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash in an Irish bar one night but more on that classic moment later. But I guess I should be traditional and start at the beginning: in Tokyo, Japan. Tokyo: a place where everything can be sold from a vending machine To ease the pain of the long haul flights, we spent two days in Tokyo on the way to the US. It's a great city with a lot of energy and some funky districts such as Shinjuku and Shibuya where the mass crowds and expensive shopping are plentiful.
